The Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League issued a 10-point charter of instruction to its leaders and activists on Sunday.
The guidelines came immediately after the allegation of extortion, snatching and abuse raised against several leaders of the ruling party’s student wing.
A release jointly signed by Chhatra League’s DU unit President Mazharul Kabir Shayon and Tanbir Hasan Shaikat asked their fellows to abstain from any activities in person or group using the name of Chhatra League other that the organizational activities.
The unit orders that no such activities should be done that disrupt educational environment rather the sound educational space must be ensured.
All the Leaders and activists of the unit were urged to make voluntary participation in DU’s educational development and research, socio cultural activities as well as artistic works.
Personal banner-festoon, bike showdown, honking, any kind of arrangement which may cause sound as well as environment pollution is discouraged inside DU campus, according to the guideline.
Cooperation should be maintained among journalists, bus committees, socio cultural organizations and progressive student bodies active in DU campus.
DU Chhatra League asks fellow to cooperate uni authority while taking legal action
Among the 10-point guidelines, Shayon and Shaikat directed the leaders and activists of their unit to cooperate the university authority in terms of abating drug paddling, religious extremism, communalism, militancy and criminal activities while the authority would step forward to take action against any student under the law of this country.
Activities including, anti-disciplinary, safety breaching, eve-teasing, ragging are not to be conducted by any Chhatra League men, the guideline also included.
The DU unit of the ruling party’s student wing hopped that the men belongs to the organization will be exemplary and faithful to all the students of DU.
However, ruling party general secretary Obaidul Quader from a rally Saturday asked the Chhatra League to take action against the Chhatra League men who involves in criminal activities.
Recently, Chhatra League men inside DU campus made headlines as they got violent on doing extortion, carrying out attack on other political groups and physically abusing students.
Two of them were handed over to police while they were attempting to extort money from a group of visitors who had traveled to Amar Ekushey Book Fair from Chandpur on Thursday evening.
On the following day, they hurt 10 Chhatra Odhikar Parishad men Chhatra League men reportedly swooped on the Parishad’s procession making their anniversary.
