Jubo Dal president questions changes in Lal Chand murder FIR

The Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal organized a press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in the capital.

Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna has raised concerns over alleged alterations made to the First Information Report (FIR) in the murder case of Lal Chand Sohag, a 39-year-old scrap trader who was brutally killed in front of Mitford Hospital in Dhaka.

He questioned why three names originally provided by the victim’s family were excluded and replaced with three new suspects.

Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday morning at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Munna demanded answers about who made these changes and why.

“The incident occurred on Wednesday, but it was widely reported only on Friday. Why was there a delay, and who is behind this?” he said.

Referring to victim statements, Munna claimed that the family had submitted the names of specific individuals in the FIR, yet they were later dropped.

He also expressed surprise that the individuals clearly seen in CCTV footage of the attack were not listed as the main accused. “Those who inflicted the fatal injuries have yet to be arrested,” he added.

Over 60 hours after the murder, Munna described the lack of arrests of key suspects—despite the availability of strong visual evidence—as “a mystery.”

Acknowledging responsibility within the organization, Munna noted that the Jubo Dal had already taken disciplinary action. “We are not denying responsibility. We have acted based on evidence. Yesterday alone, five members were expelled. Over the past year, we have expelled thousands of members. But has the administration taken legal or disciplinary actions in these cases? If not, why?”

He also criticized the overall law and order situation in the country, stating that it has not improved significantly over the past year.

Citing recent incidents, Munna said, “Yesterday, in Khulna, a former Jubo Dal leader who had already been expelled was shot dead and had his tendons severed. In Chandpur, an imam was brutally attacked during a Friday sermon.”

He alleged that these acts reflect a long-standing pattern of politically motivated violence by a particular group.

“The same group was behind yesterday’s two incidents, and they were also involved in the controversial episode at KUET,” Munna claimed.

He further accused the government of failing to maintain law and order and said that a “politically opportunistic group” is launching selective protests and issuing statements targeting the BNP and its affiliated organizations.

The press conference was attended by Jubo Dal General Secretary Nurul Islam, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasir Uddin, Swechchhasebak Dal President S.M. Zilani, and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, among others.
