Foreign policy, global economy, and geopolitical expert Shahab Enam Khan, a professor of the Department of International Relations of Jahangirnagar University said that Foreign Minister Abdul Momen and State Minister Shahriar Alam were efficient but the priority of the government has changed.
Momen and Shahriar failed to close the tie with the West. Even they were unable to stop the negative reaction of the European Union, UK, Australia, and Canada over the 12th parliamentary election.
Shahab Enam said, "That was to be expected and it cannot be cited as a ground for their exclusion."
According to Professor Khan, they are left out mainly due to ideological issues. In addition, global financial issues were taken into consideration.
He said, "This change has been made to establish the democratic model of the nation in Western politics. Abdul Momen is very much an academician. Now the minister (Hasan Mahmud) is well versed in political issues. And he was made the new foreign minister because the new minister would have to play the role of motivating the West to accept the democratic politics of the East".
"Foreign policy requirements have changed. Now the country has to concentrate on ideological and economic issues in its foreign policies, he added.
