Obaidul Quader, General Secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL), emphasized the need to avoid movements causing public suffering.
He referred specifically to the anti-quota movement, stating, "The court has invalidated the circular abolishing the quota system, and the government has appealed this decision. Blocking roads and causing public inconvenience should be avoided until the High Court reaches a verdict."
Speaking at a press briefing held at the AL president`s office in Dhanmondi, Quader mentioned discussing the anti-quota and teachers` movements with the Prime Minister recently.
He clarified that the government had previously abolished all quotas through a circular in 2018, but the matter is now pending before the High Court due to an appeal from children of seven freedom fighters seeking quota reinstatement.
"The case is currently before the country`s highest court, and we must await the High Court`s decision. We trust that the court will consider the actual circumstances before delivering its verdict," Quader, the AL`s second-in-command, added.
He also alleged that the movement has been influenced by certain political agendas.
"BNP is attempting to exploit this movement and has extended their support, effectively participating in it. Time will reveal the extent of their involvement and whether it`s part of a larger conspiracy," Quader remarked.
The press briefing was attended by Awami League Joint General Secretaries Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nashim, Organising Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, SM Kamal Hossain, Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, and Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, among others.
