BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said his party is "not satisfied at all" with the outcome of the meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus as no specific deadline was given for holding the national election.

"The chief adviser did not give us any specific deadline. He again said today that he wants to hold the election sometime between December and June," Fakhrul said, reports The Daily Star.

"But we are not satisfied at all. We have clearly said that December is the cut-off time. If the election is not held by December, the political, economic, and social situation will deteriorate further, and it will be very difficult to bring under control," he said while speaking to reporters following a two-hour meeting with Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna.

"All of us went to meet him (Muhammad Yunus) today and shared our concerns. The main issue was the specific roadmap for the election, which we have been demanding for quite some time. We discussed this with him," Fakhrul said.

He further said, "We told him that, given the current political situation and the state of the country, we believe that a prompt and acceptable election is the only way to resolve the crisis. At the same time, we are fully cooperating with the ongoing reform commissions initiated by the government."

"A few days ago, we submitted our opinions on those reforms, and tomorrow, we are likely to have a meeting regarding them."

Fakhrul also said, "We have clearly said that we are ready to formulate a charter based on the issues on which all parties reach a consensus. Guided by that charter, we can move forward with the election and the reforms, we mutually agree upon. These reforms will be implemented by the elected political representatives. That is the crux of what we said."

A seven-member delegation of BNP, led by Fakhrul, met the chief adviser, to press for a clear roadmap to the upcoming national election. Other members of the delegation included BNP Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Nazrul Islam Khan, Jamir Uddin Sircar and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
