Barrister Zaima Rahman, daughter of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, made her first public appearance in a party forum by virtually joining an internal meeting on Sunday.

A brief 39-second video of her participation in an online conference involving expatriate BNP leaders and a European representative group surfaced on social media, quickly gaining widespread attention. The discussion focused on BNP’s expatriate voting initiatives.

In the clip, Zaima  who has so far maintained distance from active politics  was seen thanking members for their efforts.
“Thank you, everyone. Thank you for being here and for the work you’ve done. You’ve shared your views — both challenges and positives. Several issues came up, and Rizvi uncle and Pavel uncle have taken notes. We will review them at the central level,” she said.

She further added, “The work must continue. Everyone is connected and should support each other. Khokon uncle has clearly explained how tasks should proceed according to the timeline. We should avoid delays and follow the priority schedule. Thank you so much.”

BNP Media Cell member Atikur Rahman Rumi told UNB that although Zaima indeed attended the meeting and spoke, the party did not officially release the footage. He said the video appears to have been secretly recorded and then uploaded online.

This marks the first time Zaima has been seen participating in a BNP organizational activity related to expatriate voting.

Earlier this year, on February 5–6, she accompanied a BNP delegation to the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, alongside Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

In a BBC interview last month, Tarique Rahman was asked about the possibility of his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, or daughter Zaima entering politics. He responded, “Time and circumstances will say.”

Zaima has lived in London with her parents since 2008. She completed her schooling and higher education there, earning a Law degree from Queen Mary University of London before qualifying as a barrister from Lincoln’s Inn.
