Bangladeshi independent filmmaker Sazzad Khan’s upcoming feature film ‘Sahos’ was denied a censor certificate by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCB). The board held a screening session of the film last week, and the board members came to this decision. The members have decided that ‘Sahos’ is “unfit for distribution in front of the general public.”
BFCB Secretary Mominul Haque told several media outlets that the censor board unanimously came to this decision. He also added that the film was filled with violence, profanity and curses. Haque also informed that the film does not have a continuity of storyline and if they issue a re-edit list then there will be nothing left of the story.
The board also declared that the film’s production company Shapla Media will receive a formal letter explaining the details of this decision.
The Report’s Showbiz team contacted the film’s director Sazzad Khan to know his reaction to this decision. He said: “I have not received the formal report from the board yet. I can tell details about this after I receive that.”
When asked about his opinion on why this film was denied a censor certificate, the director replied: “This is a film about how a rural girl seeks justice for the wrongdoings done against her and how she struggles to turn her fate around. I do not understand why such a film was declared ‘unfit’ for projection.”
“I agree that there is the use of some profane language in the film. But that was just for the character development,” he added.
‘Sahos’ stars popular television stars Orsha, Imran and many others.
According to regulations the film’s director or producer can appeal against these decisions within 30 working days. The film’s team will take decisions after reviewing the formal letter from the board.
