Japanese football legend Kazuyoshi Miura rolled back the years on Saturday by scoring his first competitive goal in almost four years, extending his remarkable playing career with another historic milestone at the age of 59.
Widely known as "King Kazu", Miura found the net in the 52nd minute as third-tier side Fukushima United cruised to a 7-0 victory over Iwaki Furukawa to book their place in the next round of the Emperor`s Cup.
The veteran striker was mobbed by teammates after scoring before leaving the field to a warm reception just three minutes later.
It was Miura`s first competitive goal since November 2022, when he scored for Suzuka PG—now known as Atletico Suzuka—in a Japan Football League match against FC Osaka.
The former Japan international is preparing for what will be his 42nd season as a professional footballer after extending his loan spell with Fukushima United until June 2027.
Miura joined Fukushima from Yokohama FC in December and made six appearances during the shortened 2026 campaign before agreeing to remain with the club.
His latest contract means he is set to continue playing into his 60s, particularly as Japan`s professional football calendar prepares to switch from a spring-to-autumn format to an autumn-to-spring season.
