5 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Five more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh, while 1,083 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms have been reported during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information in a health-related press release issued on Wednesday. According to the statement, the data was collected between 8:00 am on August 4 and 8:00 am on August 5.

According to the report, all five children who died with suspected measles symptoms in the past 24 hours were residents of Dhaka division. However, no measles-related death was confirmed through testing during this period.

Since March 15 this year, a total of 758 deaths have been reported among people with suspected measles symptoms. Of them, 96 deaths have been confirmed as measles-related after testing.

The DGHS said 124 people tested positive for measles in the last 24 hours. Since March 15, the number of confirmed measles cases in the country has reached 16,655, while the number of suspected measles cases has risen to 132,905.

Meanwhile, 124 measles patients were admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours. Since March 15, a total of 115,234 measles patients have been hospitalized, of whom 111,005 have recovered and been discharged.

Among the divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of suspected measles cases in the past 24 hours, with 394 cases.

The other divisions reported 194 suspected cases in Chattogram, 119 in Sylhet, 114 in Barishal, 60 in Khulna, 37 in Mymensingh, 31 in Rajshahi, and 10 in Rangpur.
