Poet Rezauddin Stalin appointed director general of Shilpakala Academy

The government has appointed poet Rezauddin Stalin as the new Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Confirming the appointment on Sunday, the academy’s Secretary Mohammad Warez Hossain said, “He joined the ministry today and will arrive here shortly.”

Rezauddin Stalin, a prominent poet of the 1980s and the member-secretary of the National Poetry Council, received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2006 for his contributions to poetry.

National Poetry Council convener Mohan Raihan also confirmed the appointment, saying, “Poet Rezauddin Stalin has been appointed the new Director General of the Shilpakala Academy. We are on our way there.”

The post of Director General has seen several changes in the past year. Liaquat Ali Lucky resigned after the fall of the Awami League government during the mass student-people’s movement on August 5 last year.

On September 9 last year, theatre director and researcher Professor Syed Jamil Ahmed was appointed for two years, and the academy’s council was reconstituted. However, Jamil Ahmed resigned on February 28 this year, citing various complaints against the ministry.

Following his resignation, Secretary Mohammad Warez Hossain was made acting Director General on March 4. On September 14, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs gave Additional Secretary (Administration) Abul Faez Md Alauddin Khan additional responsibility as Director General.

Barely a week later, Rezauddin Stalin has now been formally appointed to the post.
