As many as 50 new model mosques and Islamic cultural centres are expected to be inaugurated across the country on Monday (January 16) by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
An official of Religious Affairs Ministry notified this on Saturday saying that the premier will inaugurate those in the second phase virtually at around 11am.
According to State Minister for Religious Affairs M Faridul Haque Khan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has proposed building 564 model mosques in every district and upazilas of Bangladesh encouraged by the spirit of Islam as well as following the footsteps of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prior to this, on June 10, 2021, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first phase of 50 model mosques—out of a total of 564. These mosques are intended to spray the genuine messages of Islam and dispel common misconceptions about religion.
The model mosques contain separate spaces for aju (ablution) and namaj (prayer) as well as an air conditioning system, according to the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Along with the mosques, there will also be registration and training facilities for Haj pilgrims, an Imam training center, a research center, an Islamic library, a corner for people with autism, a parking facility, a pre-primary education and Quran learning arrangement, a conference room for Islamic cultural events and Islamic dawat, a center for the Islamic books selling, and boarding facilities for both domestic and foreign visitors.
