Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Nahid Islam has pledged action against the officials involved in the shutting down of internet across the country during the recent student protests.
He was talking to journalists on the maiden day of joining his office at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.
Those responsible for the internet shutdown during the protests will face consequences, he said.
The access to internet is a right and disrupting or shutting down internet services is a violation of human rights, the adviser added.
The Information and Communication Technology Division, Nahid said, plans to incorporate youth participation to fulfill the aspirations of the young generation.
The ICT adviser said, “There are great job opportunities for youth in the ICT sector. There are also a large number of such young people in the country. We now need to connect with them. A connection will be made with those who are experienced."
