Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force joined in controlling the fire at New Super Market in New Market area of the capital. Air force helicopters have been kept ready to douse the fire.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Assistant Director Senior, ASP ANM Imran Khan confirmed the matter to the media.
The fire broke out at 5:40 am on Saturday (April, 15).
Firefighter Masud Ahmed of Palashi Fire Station confirmed this. However, this fire service official could not initially inform about the origin of the fire and the casualties.
Meanwhile, after getting the news of the fire, traders rushed to the spot. They are seen crying in front of the market. Some of the traders are risking their lives to get the intact goods out of their shops.
Shopkeepers say that due to COVID, there was no business in the last few years, but this year, they got the opportunity to make up for the loss during Eid. Business was also going well. But, everything ended in a fire.
BGB and law enforcement officers are helping fire service department. After three hours, the fire is still not under control.
