The fire in the capital's Bangabazar has spread to four other markets including the market on the opposite side of the road. 50 units of fire service are working to control this terrible fire. The markets are Bangabazar, Adarsh Mahanagar Market, Islamia Market, and Homeo Market. The army, navy, and air forces are also working to control the fire. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members are also working to control the fire.
Despite the best efforts of the fire service due to adverse weather conditions, it is not possible to bring the fire under control due to wind. Meanwhile, the angry crowd attacked the fire service headquarters.
Rima Khanom, the duty officer of the fire service control room told the media, "Our people are getting injured while controlling the fire. We are trying our best to bring the fire under control. But some people came to our headquarters and attacked the office. The car was also vandalized."
The attack was carried out around 10:30 in the morning. After some time, the fire service personnel took a safe position inside the building to escape from the angry crowd.
A firefighter was injured in the attack. He has been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Institute in the capital. However, his identity was not immediately known.
