Bangladesh government denies claims of religious discrimination in social media post

The Chief Adviser’s press wing has strongly refuted a recent social media post that claims the Bangladesh government discriminates against citizens based on religion.

This denial was issued through a Facebook post by the CA Press Wing Facts on Thursday, describing the allegations as "completely fabricated."

In their statement, the press wing emphasized,

"The Bangladesh government does not discriminate against any citizen based on religion. The information mentioned in the X post is entirely false. Additionally, the quote attributed to the Adviser for Home Affairs is also untrue."

The controversy began when an account named Times Algebra posted on social media platform X on Wednesday, accusing the Bangladesh government of barring Hindus from securing government jobs.

The post went on to quote the Adviser for Home Affairs, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, allegedly stating, "Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority country.

Therefore, Muslims will be prioritized in police and other government jobs."

The post further claimed that a new government directive has limited the recruitment of Hindus in the police force, from constables to higher-ranking positions, rejecting over 1,500 applications from Hindu candidates.

In addition, the post, citing a report from Times of India, also alleged that 100 Hindu officers had been dismissed from their posts.

These claims, according to the press wing, are baseless, with the Bangladesh government affirming its stance on equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their religion.
