The death toll from a deadly hotel fire in India`s capital has climbed to 23 after a Bangladeshi woman receiving treatment for severe burn injuries succumbed to her wounds.
The woman died at a hospital in Delhi on Wednesday, more than a week after the devastating blaze that swept through a hotel in the city`s Malviya Nagar area.
According to police, she had been in critical condition since the incident and was undergoing treatment for extensive burn injuries. Authorities confirmed that her death has pushed the overall toll from the tragedy to 23.
South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Anant Mittal said the latest victim was a Bangladeshi national who had been hospitalized since the fire.
The fire broke out on June 4 at the Flourish Stage Bed and Breakfast hotel in the Hauz Rani neighborhood of south Delhi. The blaze claimed the lives of 21 people at the scene and left several others injured.
Earlier, the number of fatalities had increased to 22 following the death of a Nigerian national who was also being treated for serious burn injuries.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire, one of the deadliest hotel incidents reported in the area in recent years.
