Lawyer MA Malek Talukder filed a petition to scrap the remand and receive bail on behalf of Meheraz.

He said at the hearing, "Several other suspects have already been arrested and have been remanded in this incident. Two of the accused have confessed their guilt and given statements in court stating who committed the incident, reports bdnews24.com.

“Meheraz was not at the scene of the incident. He was not seen in the video footage of the incident either. Since the other suspects are his friends, he has been implicated in this case on the basis of speculation. If he needs to be interrogated, an order can be granted to interrogate him at the jail gate."

After the hearing, the court ordered he be remanded for questioning for five days.

Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain confirmed the remand decision.

Meheraz could be seen crying in court during the hearing. However, he did not say anything. He is the prime suspect in the case.

Alvi Hosan Junaid, Al Amin Sunny and Hridoy Miyaji, joint member secretary of the Banani Thana of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, have also been remanded for questioning.
