Ex-MP singer Momtaz placed on six-day Remand

Former Awami League Member of Parliament and renowned singer Momtaz Begum has been placed on a six-day remand in connection with two separate cases — one for murder in Singair, Manikganj, and the other for assault and vandalism in Harirampur.

On Thursday, May 22, shortly after 11 AM, a Manikganj Chief Judicial Magistrate‍‍`s Court granted the remand request in Momtaz Begum’s presence.

According to court sources in Manikganj, the murder case stems from a 2013 incident in Gobindol, Singair upazila, where four people were killed by police gunfire during a pro-strike rally.

On October 25 last year, a local resident, Md. Majnu Molla, filed the case with Singair Police Station, naming Momtaz as the prime accused.

In a separate case filed on October 29 in Harirampur, her electoral constituency, Momtaz faces allegations of attack, assault, and vandalism.

The case was filed by Md. Delowar Hossain, the organizational secretary of Harirampur Upazila BNP.

Court Inspector Abul Khayer stated that hearings were scheduled for 11:30 AM in the courts of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Abdun Nur (Court-1) and Senior Judicial Magistrate Ivy Akter (Court-3).

Prior to this, Momtaz Begum had been in four-day police remand related to multiple murder cases filed in various police stations in Dhaka.

Following the completion of that remand period, she was placed in Kashimpur Jail.
