23 people were admitted to the hospital due to smoke inhalation while putting out the fire at the capital's New Super Market. They are being treated in the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The injured are fire service members Rasel (22), Shanto (20), Taufiq (23), Rajan (25), Milon (26), Sajeeb (25), Ariful (26), Kamruzzaman (25), Shariful (24), Biman Army Sergeant Arafat (35).
Besides, shop workers Bayjid (25), Hasan (20), Yasin (24), Swapan (23), Rimon (28), Kamal Hossain (33), Feroz Alam (30), Jisan (18), shop-owner Jibon (30) ), Jibon (22), volunteer Rifat (24) and rickshaw driver Zakir Hossain (27), Ansar Sabuj (20).
Bacchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Police Station, said, “All of them suffered from smoke inhalation. They are initially being treated with oxygen.”
The fire service received information about the fire at 5:40 am on Saturday morning. Members of the fire service reached the spot within three minutes of receiving the information and started working to control the fire. Fire service and 32 units of civil defense brought the fire under control at around 9:00 am.
