Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar has said that the country has the highest ever stock of rice. There will be no famine in the country. There is no chance of a famine unless Allah himself does not throw punishment by His own hands.
He said this while speaking at the second session of the second day of the three-day annual DC Conference-2023 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday.
He said Aman production has been good. Aman production has surpassed 20 to 25 maunds in place of 15 to 16 maunds per bigha. Moreover, there is Boro plantation in front. The production of Boro will also be good. So there is no reason to be panicked. However, Bangladesh also has to keep pace with the growth of the global market.
In reply to the query why the price of rice is not falling even though there is so much stock of rice, the minister said, there are OMS, food-friendly VGD, VGF for those for whom the price of rice is unbearable. So there is no reason to be panicked. Everyone is fine. However, everyone should pay attention to prevent food wastage. Because in many wedding events 15 to 20 percent of food is wasted. It must be prevented.
