Police used batons to break up a long march organized by students of the Medical Assistant Training School (MATS), leading to injuries for at least 11 students.

The march was headed toward the Secretariat, with the students demanding the fulfillment of four key demands.

The students had been marching peacefully, but tensions escalated when the police intervened.

The injured students were rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, arriving around 5:15 PM on Sunday.

Among the injured were Mehrab (20) from Naogaon MATS, Ershadul Haque (30) from Prime MATS, Zahidul Hasan (26), Sohag (22), Amanullah (20) from Shyamoli MATS, Sayma (21), Sumaiya Khatun (20), and Tahmina Akter Toma (20) from Trauma MATS. Also injured were Mohammad Rasel (23) from Barishal Jamjam MATS, Shihab (20) from Gazipur MATS, and Arafat (21) from Kushtia MATS.

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, shared an update with reporters:

“We’ve received 11 students from the Secretariat area, who were injured during the protest. They are currently being treated in the emergency department.”

The incident has sparked a wider discussion about the handling of student protests, with many questioning the use of force against peaceful demonstrators.
