Bangladeshi singer Mainul Ahsan Noble has been granted bail in a rape case filed with Demra Police Station in the capital. The bail was granted on Tuesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub.
Noble’s lawyer, Md. Khalilur Rahman, confirmed the bail, stating that the court considered the mutual settlement between the two parties and the fact that they have since married under Islamic law.
Earlier, Noble’s bail application was submitted on Sunday. The court had scheduled today`s hearing in the presence of both Noble and the complainant, a student of Eden College. During the hearing, Noble was produced in court from jail, and the complainant was also present.
The complainant told the court that she had no objection to Noble’s bail. The defense also informed the court that although the marriage had taken place, the formal registration was pending and would be completed after Noble’s release. Considering the situation, the court granted bail.
Noble had been in custody since May 20, when he was arrested from the Demra Staff Quarter around 2 AM. According to the case details, the Eden College student filed the complaint on May 19, alleging that Noble had abducted her in November of the previous year and had sexually assaulted her over a period of seven months without marrying her.
The situation escalated after a video showing the singer allegedly physically assaulting the complainant went viral on social media, prompting her family to seek assistance via the national emergency helpline 999. Police subsequently rescued the complainant and filed a rape case against Noble.
After his arrest, previous bail petitions had been rejected. However, last week, during a bail hearing, Noble’s lawyer stated that he was willing to marry the complainant. The court then ordered the marriage to be conducted inside the jail, which was later carried out.
Following this development and mutual settlement, Noble has now been released on bail.
