Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan has claimed that the ongoing Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election is being held without any lack of transparency.

Speaking to reporters around 3:00 pm after inspecting three polling centers at the Senate Building, the VC said voter turnout had already crossed 70 percent in several centers. He added that students still in line after 4:00 pm would also be allowed to cast their votes.

Addressing reports of irregularities, the VC admitted to a “minor problem” at Curzon Hall, where a voter was mistakenly given two ballots. “We took immediate action in that case and the polling officer was withdrawn. We will investigate further, and if anyone is found responsible, action will be taken,” he said.

On the allegation that a pre-marked ballot was issued at the TSC polling center, Professor Khan said necessary steps had already been taken.

Calling the DUCSU election a “national demand,” the VC expressed hope that all candidates would accept the results. “Whoever wins or loses, they must acknowledge that there has been no lack of transparency,” he said.

Earlier, around 2:30 pm, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Saima Haque Bidisha also visited three centers at the Senate Building. She said that students were casting votes in a “joyful atmosphere,” and turnout was expected to be significant.
