Education Minister: Schools to reopen once safety assured

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel stated on Wednesday that educational institutions in the country would remain closed until absolute safety for students is guaranteed.

"It would be unwise to hastily reopen educational institutions and risk further disruptions. We will first ensure a conducive academic environment before considering reopening," he told reporters at the secretariat.

Nowfel criticized the issuance of repeated ultimatums, remarking, "The court‍‍`s judgment was issued in response to protesters‍‍` demands, and the government has complied with the gazette."

"The primary concern currently is the HSC exams, with those scheduled for July 25 being postponed. Revised dates will be announced later," he added.

A notification signed by Prof Tapan Kumar Sarkar, chairman of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Dhaka Education Board chairman on July 18, cited unavoidable reasons for postponing the HSC and equivalent exams scheduled for July 21, 23, and 25. Other exams will proceed as scheduled starting from July 28.

Earlier, Thursday‍‍`s HSC and equivalent exams were also postponed.
