An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale rattled the capital city of Delhi early on Monday morning, causing widespread panic as residents fled their homes and rushed into the streets.

The tremor, which struck at approximately 5:35 AM, was felt across Delhi and its surrounding areas. Although the shaking startled many, no reports of injuries or property damage have surfaced so far.

People were seen standing outside their homes, anxiously waiting for any potential aftershocks.

According to the National Seismological Centre, the quake’s epicenter was located near Durga Bai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, and it occurred at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers below the ground.

The mild earthquake triggered numerous reactions on social media, where users shared their personal experiences. Some people found the situation unsettling, while others took a lighter approach.

One individual remarked, “For the first time, I woke up without an alarm,” while another commented, “Everything around me was shaking.”

Despite the earthquake being officially recorded at 4.0 magnitude, many residents felt that the shaking was much stronger.

A user on the platform X questioned, “Was it really just a 4.0 earthquake?” Another responded, “It definitely felt stronger than that.”

Others described their experience more vividly.

One person posted, “I was on the upper floors of a building, so maybe I felt it more, but the entire building was literally swaying.”

Some social media users even used humor to describe the event, with one joking, “It felt like Godzilla was walking past my house.”

Many longtime Delhi residents said they hadn’t felt such intense tremors in decades, with some claiming it was the strongest earthquake they had experienced in 25 years.

In the wake of the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for calm, urging people to stay safe and follow any necessary precautions. On social media, he posted,

Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.

Besides Delhi, India Today reported that tremors were felt in other regions, including Agra and Haryana.

This earthquake follows two previous ones recorded in Delhi earlier this year on January 11 and January 23.

The earthquake left many in Delhi uneasy, but fortunately, it seems no major damage occurred.

However, experts remind residents to remain cautious and stay prepared for any aftershocks.
