The lawmaker of Dhaka-9 constituency, Saber Hossain Chowdhury has been made Special Envoy to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for Climate Change.
Notifying the matter, a government gazette was issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday stating that Cabinet Division Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain issued this following order of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
The gazette also said that Saber will carry out this duty in unpaid basis.
Saber was President of Geneva headquartered Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) between 2014 and 2017, which is a global organization of national parliaments. He also served the post of president of Bangladesh Cricket Board.
He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change.
Earlier of April 4 he applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for quitting his diplomatic passport, instead, he requested to obtain an ordinary one.
Saber was awarded by Vladimir Putin the "Order of Friendship" award, the highest state honour provided by Russia to foreigners for his contribution to global development through IPU. He was awarded by World Health Organization (WHO) on World No Tobacco Day.
