Bangladesh has reported two more dengue-related deaths and 715 new hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday (October 7).
With the latest figures, the total number of hospitalizations due to dengue this year has risen to 51,404, while the death toll stands at 217.
The DGHS report, covering data from 8 a.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday, stated that the two deceased were both women—aged 60 and 27—who were undergoing treatment at DNCC Dedicated Covid-19 Hospital and Mugda Medical College Hospital, respectively.
Of the 715 new hospital admissions, 141 were from Dhaka North City, 114 from Dhaka South City, and 142 from areas of Dhaka Division outside the city corporations. Other divisions reported new cases as follows: Barishal (131), Chattogram (70), Khulna (41), Mymensingh (34), Rajshahi (32), and Rangpur (10).
During the same period, 666 dengue patients were discharged across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 48,667.
DGHS data shows monthly death counts as follows: January (10), February (3), April (7), May (3), June (19), July (41), August (39), and September (76). No deaths were reported in March.
As of now, 859 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, while thousands more have been treated and discharged nationwide since the beginning of the year.
