4 die of dengue in a day, hospital admissions hit record high

Bangladesh reported four deaths from dengue fever in the past 24 hours while hospital admissions surged to a record 845 patients, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). All four deaths occurred in hospitals in Dhaka.

The DGHS’s Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room released the data on Sunday (28 September), covering the period from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Of the 845 new hospital admissions, 209 were in hospitals within Dhaka city, 166 in Barishal Division (excluding the city corporation), 164 in Dhaka Division (excluding the city corporation), 101 in Khulna Division (excluding the city corporation), 91 in Chattogram Division (excluding the city corporation), 54 in Rajshahi Division (excluding the city corporation), 37 in Mymensingh Division (excluding the city corporation), 17 in Rangpur Division (excluding the city corporation), and six in Sylhet Division (excluding the city corporation).

Among the four deaths, two were women and two were men — two from Dhaka South City and two from Dhaka North City.

As of 28 September, a total of 192 people have died of dengue this year, while 46,051 have been hospitalized with the disease. Of them, 43,629 patients have since been discharged.

The previous highest single-day admissions were recorded on 21 September, when 740 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide.
