9 more die of dengue, highest single-day infections recorded this year

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported nine new dengue-related deaths in the past 24 hours, raising this year’s total death toll to 212.

During the same period, 1,042 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country — the highest single-day figures for both deaths and infections so far in 2025.

According to a DGHS press release issued on Sunday (October 5), the total number of hospitalizations due to dengue this year has reached 49,907.

Of the latest fatalities, seven occurred under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area, while one each was reported in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chattogram Division.

Dhaka Division also recorded the highest number of new admissions in a single day, with 201 patients hospitalized.

In the last 24 hours, DNCC hospitals admitted 198 patients, followed by Barishal Division with 195, DSCC with 121, Chattogram with 104, Rajshahi with 82, Khulna with 72, Mymensingh with 41, Rangpur with 23, and Sylhet with 5 new cases.

Since January 1, a total of 212 people have died from dengue across the country. The DGHS data shows that DSCC has recorded the highest number of deaths (102), followed by Barishal Division (32), DNCC (28), Chattogram (25), Rajshahi (10), Mymensingh (7), Khulna (5), and Dhaka Division (3).

Health authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and eliminate mosquito breeding sources amid the continued surge in dengue cases nationwide.
