A patient named Momtaz Begum, aged 52, lost her life after being stuck in the elevator of Gazipur‍‍`s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. in elevator number three. Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam, the Deputy Director of the Medical College, stated that a five-member investigation committee has been formed following the incident.

Momtaz Begum hailed from Barigaon village in Kapasia upazila. She was admitted to the hospital for treatment early in the morning.

Mr. Jahangir Alam mentioned, "A committee has been formed, headed by Professor Rubina Yasmin from the Department of Medicine, with representation from other departments including the Engineering department and a resident physician from the Department of Residential Medicine. The committee has been instructed to submit the investigation report within three working days."

Momtaz‍‍`s uncle, Shahadat Hossain Selim, recounted, "Due to illness around 6 a.m., Momtaz was brought to the emergency department of the hospital. Later, she was admitted to the 11th floor of the hospital by the physicians. When she was being transferred from the 11th floor to the fourth floor to see the doctor, the elevator suddenly stopped working.

At that time, there were about 18 to 20 people inside the elevator. After being stuck in the elevator for 45 minutes, the hospital staff managed to open the elevator on the 9th floor and evacuate them. However, Momtaz Begum passed away before she could be rescued."

Dr. Hasnin Jahan, the Residential Medical Officer at the hospital, stated, "A patient has died inside the elevator. Investigation is underway."

Officer-in-Charge Syed Rafiul Islam of Sadar Police Station commented, "Momtaz Begum was already in critical condition. Oxygen crisis could have led to her demise after being trapped in the elevator. The incident is under investigation."
