Patients are leaving Ad-Din Hospital after its license was cancelled following the deaths of six newborns.

As of 2:30 pm today (Friday), 176 patients have already left the hospital, according to the institution’s Director (Company Affairs) Tariqul Islam Mukul.

He said that when the cancellation order was issued on Thursday afternoon, 426 patients were admitted. Currently, around 250 patients remain hospitalized, while others have left at different times.

We respect the decision of the Directorate General of Health Services. We will complete the appeal process by Sunday, he added.

Regarding patient evacuation, he said that patients cannot be moved out immediately, and the hospital is continuing to provide care as much as possible. However, many patients have already left, and the final situation will depend on the outcome of the appeal.

It is noted that on May 27, six newborns died one after another in the post-delivery ward of Ad-Din Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area. A government-formed investigation committee later found evidence of negligence by the hospital authorities.

The report cited overcrowding, prolonged shutdown of air conditioning, lack of alternative ventilation, and increased carbon dioxide levels in the air as likely contributing factors in the deaths.

Following the findings, the Ministry of Health declared the hospital’s explanation unsatisfactory, and the Directorate General of Health Services cancelled its license on Thursday.
