Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of the Indian state of West Bengal, has sent her congratulations to Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus on becoming the chief advisor to the new interim government.
In a Facebook post on Friday, she wrote, “My sincere congratulations and best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus and those who have taken up duties in Bangladesh. Hopefully, our relationship with them will improve.
“I wish for Bangladesh`s development, peace, progress and betterment of people from all walks of life. My best wishes to everyone from students, youth, workers, farmers, and women there,” the post reads.
“Hopefully, the crisis will end soon, and peace will return. Let peace come back to this world loved by everyone. If our neighboring nation does well, we will do well too," it adds.
Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in the face of a student-led mass movement, an interim government headed by Yunus was sworn in on Thursday.
Yunus`s cabinet is composed of 16 advisors, three of whom are yet to be sworn in as they were outside Dhaka during the ceremony.
On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted Dr Yunus while seeking the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities in Bangladesh.
