U.S. President Donald Trump has openly expressed his desire to take control of Gaza, proposing that Palestinians be relocated to a different place.
He made this statement on Tuesday after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
This meeting was significant as it was the first time a foreign leader met with Trump after he started his second term as president.
Following their discussions, both leaders appeared before the media to share key points from their talks.
Trump Wants U.S. Ownership of Gaza
During the press briefing, Trump stated that the United States will take the responsibility of removing unexploded bombs from Gaza and will also work on rebuilding the area.
However, what stood out most was his bold declaration that America wants ownership of Gaza.
Trump justified his stance by saying,
"America has maintained dominance in the region for a long time. Now, we directly want ownership of Gaza."
On the topic of Israel`s influence in the West Bank, Trump clarified that Washington has not yet taken a definitive stance but assured that a formal announcement would be made within a month.
Regarding Iran, Trump expressed a willingness to negotiate but made it clear that he would not allow Iran to enter into any nuclear deal.
Hopes for a Peace Agreement Between Israel and Saudi Arabia
Trump also spoke about the possibility of a peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia, saying that he is optimistic about a deal being reached soon.
Netanyahu, standing beside him, took the opportunity to express his admiration for Trump, calling him "his greatest friend."
Trump`s Controversial Plan to Remove Palestinians from Gaza
Trump sparked further debate with his proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza permanently.
He suggested, "We can create a peaceful and beautiful place for the Palestinians where they would no longer wish to return."
Comparing Gaza to a "pile of ruins," Trump questioned, "I don’t understand why the Palestinians would even want to go back there."
His idea of moving Palestinians elsewhere is not new. Previously, he had approached Jordan and Egypt, asking them to take in Gaza`s residents, but both countries refused.
Now, Trump has indicated that he is considering sending them to another Middle Eastern country.
Ceasefire Talks on the Table
Apart from discussing Gaza, Trump and Netanyahu also talked about the possibility of a ceasefire. Before flying to the U.S., Netanyahu had already expressed his interest in sending a team to Doha later this week to negotiate the terms of a possible ceasefire.
What’s Behind Trump`s Bold Statements?
Trump’s statements about Gaza have raised many eyebrows. His direct claim for ownership of the region marks a major shift in U.S. foreign policy.
If the idea of relocating Palestinians moves forward, it could spark international controversy.
Meanwhile, his push for an Israel-Saudi peace deal could be a strategic move to strengthen American influence in the Middle East.
With so many factors at play, Trump’s Gaza remarks are sure to trigger strong reactions worldwide.
Whether his plans will materialize or remain just bold statements is something only time will tell.
