Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced his agreement to a partial ceasefire with Russia following a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The agreement, which is expected to ease tensions, will specifically halt attacks on power plants, ports, and railway infrastructure.

Zelensky emphasized that, “As long as we don’t agree, as long as no documents are signed for a partial ceasefire, everything will continue to fly (drones, missiles).”

He made it clear that the situation would remain volatile until the ceasefire agreement was finalized.

The Ukrainian President described his conversation with Trump as “very positive, open, and meaningful.”

He expressed hope that under U.S. leadership, lasting peace could be achieved by the end of this year.

Nuclear Power Plant Discussion

A key topic during their discussion was the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, currently under Russian control. Zelensky revealed that he and Trump had talked about placing the facility under U.S. supervision, a move that would ensure its safety and help prevent further escalation in the ongoing conflict.

“It will take two years to bring this vital power plant back into operation,” Zelensky noted.

The facility, located in Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, is crucial for both Ukraine and Europe’s energy supply.

Ukrainian Troops and Putin’s Stance

Zelensky also shared his thoughts on the ongoing conflict, stating that as long as Ukrainian troops remain in Russia’s western Kursk region, Russian President Vladimir Putin would not agree to a full ceasefire.

Zelensky, known for his transparency, made sure to clarify that Trump had not pressured him into agreeing to Moscow’s demands, saying,

“Nothing like that happened. You know I speak openly. If such a thing had occurred, I would have said it myself.”

Trump’s Insights

In a statement following the conversation, President Trump provided additional details, saying,

“I had a very good conversation with Zelensky for about an hour. We discussed based on my previous conversation with President Putin. Ukraine has expressed its demands and requests.”

Trump also proposed that the United States could take over the responsibility of operating Ukraine’s power plants to ensure their security.

He added that the U.S. could help protect Ukraine’s infrastructure, a crucial step to ensure the country’s energy needs are met during the war.

Additionally, the two leaders discussed a proposed U.S.-Ukraine mineral agreement.

White House Confirms Partial Ceasefire Agreement

The White House confirmed that President Zelensky had agreed to a partial ceasefire, with Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stating that both sides are hopeful for a de-escalation in hostilities.

F-16 Fighter Jets for Ukraine

In another major update, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine had received additional F-16 fighter jets. However, he did not disclose the exact number.

These advanced aircraft were initially provided by Denmark and the Netherlands in August 2024, marking a significant boost to Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

The Netherlands has pledged to send 24 more jets in 2025, along with spare parts and missiles.

Countries like the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, and Norway have committed to supplying Ukraine with over 60 F-16 jets, and the UK and Romania are assisting by training Ukrainian pilots for these advanced fighter jets.

This agreement, along with the increased military support, signals a critical turning point in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia.
