The bordering Khulna division has reported 71 deaths due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest deaths reported in a single day count since the pandemic emerged in the country.
During the same period, as many as 1,650 samples tested positive in all 10 districts of the division accroding to the health authorities.
With the latest development, Khulna Division’s death toll has reached to 1,487 and the cluster of covid cases has rose to 69,187.
The figures were confirmed to the press by the divisional director of health Dr Rasheda Sultana on Friday morning.
Of the deceased, 23 were from Khulna, 14 from Kushtia, 10 from Jhenaidah, nine from Jessore, six from Chuadanga, five from Meherpur, two from Bagerhat, and one each from Magura and Narail, confirmed health authorities.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the division has also broke a grim record with 60 deaths and 1,900 fresh infections in a 24-hour count.
Khulna has recorded record number of covid cases and fatalities in recent weeks, leading to a shortage of oxygen suppy in the covid dedicated hospitals in the division.
