A court has granted a two-day remand for television actor Zaher Alvi, also known as Md. Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan, in a case filed over allegations that he abetted the suicide of his wife, Afra Ibnat Ikra.
The order was issued on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Albiruni Mir.
According to court sources, Inspector Md. Abdul Malek of the Mirpur Zonal Team, the investigating officer in the case, had sought a 10-day remand for Zaher Alvi on Sunday. The court then scheduled a hearing on the remand petition for Wednesday in the presence of the accused. Following the hearing, the court approved a two-day remand.
The plaintiff`s lawyer, Abzal Hossain Mridha, confirmed the development.
Earlier, on Thursday, Zaher Alvi surrendered before the court and applied for bail. The court rejected his bail petition and ordered that he be sent to jail.
