Deputy Attorney General Emran Ahmed Bhuiyan said that he will not sign the statement against Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
He announced this decision while talking to the media persons at the Supreme Court premises on Monday afternoon.
Emran Ahmed said, "Many, including more than 160 Nobel laureates and former US presidents and former secretaries of state, have issued statements on behalf of Dr. Muhammad Yunus saying he is being subjected to judicial harassment. Against that, the Attorney General`s Office is expected to issue a protesting statement.
"Notice has been given to everyone working in the Attorney General`s Office to sign the statement. I have decided that I will not sign this statement,` he said.
The Deputy Attorney General also said, "I agree with the statements made by 160 Nobel laureates, former US President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton." I think, Professor Dr. Yunus is an honorable man. He is being defamed and it is judicial harassment,” he said.
