High Court verdict in Major Sinha Murder case set for June 2

Major Sinha was shot dead at a police checkpoint on the Marine Drive in Teknaf on July 31, 2020.

The High Court has concluded hearings on the death reference and appeals in the murder case of retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan. The verdict is scheduled for June 2.

Major Sinha was shot dead at a police checkpoint on the Marine Drive in Teknaf on July 31, 2020.

The trial court in 2022 sentenced two former police officers—then inspector Liaqat Ali and OC Pradeep Kumar Das—to death, gave life terms to six others, and acquitted seven.

During the hearings, the Attorney General argued that Sinha, unarmed and cooperative, was shot multiple times and killed in cold blood. The incident had deeply shocked the nation.

Following the lower court ruling, both prosecution and defense submitted appeals. The High Court bench, assigned by the Chief Justice, will now deliver its judgment.
