The court rejected the bail application of former assistant proctor Deen Islam and ordered him to be sent to jail following one day`s remand in the Jagannath University (JnU) student Fairuz Sadaf Obontika`s suicide case on Wednesday.
The directive was issued by Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Bakr Siddique of Cumilla subsequent to the hearing.
Advocate Rafiqul Islam Hira, the counsel for the state, provided this information.
Obontika`s classmate Amman Siddiqui is currently on remand for two days in the same case. Following the remand, he is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Earlier, a team of Cumilla District Police brought the two to Comilla on Sunday night after being handed over by the DMP. They were taken to court on Monday afternoon.
Obontika`s mother Tahmina Shabnam filed a case against former assistant proctor Deen Islam and law department student Amman Siddiqui on Saturday night. Obontika committed suicide by hanging herself in a rented house named Arani in the Bagichagaon area of Cumilla city on Friday night.
Before her death, she blamed former assistant proctor Deen Islam and classmate Amman in a Facebook status. On Monday, the police applied to the court seeking a five-day remand for Amman Siddiqui and two days for Assistant Proctor Deen Islam. After the hearing, the court remanded Amman Siddiqui for two days and Assistant Proctor Deen Islam for one day.
