A Dhaka court today sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to seven years in jail and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul to five years for alleged irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in Rajuk’s Purbachal New Town Project.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict in their absence, as both remain unarrested and were tried in absentia.
On November 23, the court set today for the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on January 12, 2025, against 16 people, including Hasina and Saima. A charge sheet later named 18 accused.
Charges were framed on July 31, 2025, and arrest warrants were issued against all accused.
