The state has asked the Supreme Court to suspend the High Court‍‍`s decision, which declared ‍‍`Joy Bangla‍‍` as the national slogan of Bangladesh.

This request was made public by Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R. Haque on Monday, December 2.

The petition will be reviewed by the Appellate Division on Sunday, December 8.

The High Court made its decision on March 10, 2020, when a bench of Justices FRM Nazmul Ahasan and KM Kamrul Kader ruled that ‍‍`Joy Bangla‍‍` should be recognized as the national slogan.

In their ruling, the court clearly stated, “We declare that ‍‍`Joy Bangla‍‍` will be the national slogan of Bangladesh.”

This decision came after a writ petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Bashir Ahmed in 2017, asking the court to officially recognize ‍‍`Joy Bangla‍‍` as the national slogan.

Following the High Court ruling, the Bangladesh Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, formally approved ‍‍`Joy Bangla‍‍` as the national slogan on February 20, 2022.
