As many as 14 gold bars concealed in a cigarette packet were found on Friday morning at Chattogram`s Shah Amanat International Airport by members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
Airport Director Group Captain Taslim Ahmad informed the media that the seizure had occurred.
According to airport sources, there was a possibility that the gold arrived in Bangladesh on Air Arabia aircraft G9-526, which touched down at the airport at 9:26 a.m.
Airport and security officials claim that at 9:55 a.m., an intelligence team, responding to a tip, positioned itself close to a baggage conveyor belt following the aircraft`s landing and discovered a tape-wrapped cigarette packet there.
Following a search of the packet, fourteen gold bars totaling 1.63 kg and valued Tk 1.40 crore were found.
According to Taslim, the gold bars were then handed over to the airport`s customs officers for additional legal proceedings.
