Some unidentified 200-300 people have been sued over Friday`s mob attack on the Uttara residence of National Curricula and Textbook Board (NCTB) former chairman professor Ratan Siddique.
His wife Fahmida Haq, also an academic, filed the case with Uttara North Police Station on Saturday, confirmed police.
According to the case statement, the attack was aimed at killing the complainant and her husband by radical forces.
Ratan, also a playwright and Bangla Academy literary award winner, said the incident took place after Juma prayers on Friday.
He said he along with his wife was returning home in the afternoon. At the time, they were unable to take their car inside home due to a motorbike.
As the driver of the car blew horn, a person appeared there and got into an altercation.
The man falsely alleged, "I have said a mockery is taking place in the name of religion. He also angered Muslims in a mosque opposite my house. They also misbehaved with my wife."
Ratan Siddiqui said, "Seeing the situation abnormal, we locked the house after parking the car in the garage. Then several thousand people tried to break the lock. Later police appeared and brought the situation under control."
