Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida began bilateral discussions today at the Japanese Prime Minister's Office.
The Rohingya crisis, collaboration in the power and energy sector, investment, improved trade relations, and other issues of mutual interest are expected to take lead during the discussions.
The visit is considered particularly significant in context with the global economic drop, Covid-19 pandemic, and Russia-Ukraine war, as the two countries will also discuss expanded collaboration to overcome the crisis.
After the discussion eight agreements or cooperation memorandums in various sectors including agriculture, metro rail, industrial upgradation, ship recycling are expected to be signed.
The signing and exchange of instruments between the relevant authorities will be witnessed by both prime ministers.
Earlier, when Sheikh Hasina arrived at the Prime Minister's Office, her Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, greeted her and gave her a ceremonial reception.
The Bangladesh Prime Minister inspected the guard of honour at the Prime Minister's Office's Entrance Hall.
National anthems of both countries were played.
Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Rehana, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Agriculture, Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, State Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and related high-level government officials accompanied Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Besides, a delegation of businessmen also went to Japan with the Prime Minister.
The formalities of the summit will conclude with a dinner hosted in the Prime Minister's honor at the Japanese Prime Minister's residence.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left Dhaka for Tokyo, Japan yesterday at around 8 am, in a VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines along with her entourage.
Sheikh Hasina is visiting Japan three years after her last visit in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.
