A BNP activist was shot dead in Chattogram’s Hathazari area on Wednesday, with his car found riddled with 22 bullet holes.
Police said the vehicle’s front tires were punctured by bullets, while multiple rounds struck the windshield, body, and side windows.
The victim, identified as Abdul Hakim, was killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his car.
Inspection of the vehicle—now parked in front of the Modunaghat Police Investigation Centre—revealed 4 bullet holes in the windshield and body, 12 on the left-side window beside Hakim’s seat, and 6 more near the driver’s window.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, said around Tk 8.5 lakh in cash was recovered from Hakim’s car. Investigators are yet to determine the motive behind the killing. Police suspect that the incident may be linked to political rivalry or business disputes.
When reporters visited the scene—about 200 meters from the Modunaghat police outpost—a large crowd had gathered around the bullet-riddled vehicle.
Meanwhile, police have detained four suspects in connection with the murder. The arrests were made during raids in different parts of Raozan upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Confirming the detentions, Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said, “The individuals have been held for questioning as suspects. After verification, they will be sent to court for further legal action.”
No case had been filed in connection with the incident at the time of reporting.
