Bangladesh's only coral island Saint Martin may be temporarily submerged under the impact of Cyclone Mocha. Director of the Department of Meteorology, Md. Azizur Rahman said that since there is no major infrastructure in St. Martin, the storm will not be blocked anywhere. It will hit the island directly. As the center of the storm passes over St. Martin, water will move from one side of the island to the other. Due to the intensity of the storm, the island may sink for some time. The situation depends entirely on the speed of the storm.
Cyclone Mocha started crossing the coast after 9 am today. Its speed is now 215 km per hour. According to the momentum, most of it and the center of the storm will move toward northern Myanmar. And the rest will fall on the coast of Cox's Bazar. Stormy rains have already started across the coast. It may rain in most parts of the country today.
Director of the Met Dept. Azizur Rahman said that Mocha has started crossing the last border of the country. The area of Bangladesh under Mocha will be less. However, Cox's Bazar, Teknaf, and St Martin are most at risk. Warning signal number 10 has been issued for Cox's Bazar seaport.
It should be noted that if the speed of wind caused by a cyclone is 62 to 88 kilometers per hour, it is called a cyclone or 'tropical cyclone'. If the speed is 89 to 117 km, it is called a 'severe cyclonic storm'. And when the wind speed is 118 to 219 km per hour, then it is called a hurricane-speed cyclone or 'very severe cyclonic storm'. If the speed is 220 km or more, it is called a 'super cyclone'.
According to the Met Dept., the speed of Mocha is now 215 km per hour, which is an almost super cyclone. However, after reaching the coast, its speed may decrease slightly to 180 to 190 km. Hence it cannot be called a super cyclone.
