Cyclone Mocha to strike between 9 am and 3 pm today

Cyclone Mocha may move further north and northeast and intensify and cross Cox's Bazar and the northern Myanmar coast between 9 am and 3 pm today. 

This was informed in the last special notice of the Department of Meteorology on Saturday at 2:30 am.

According to the notification, the cyclone is currently moving towards the coast at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour. The maximum sustained wind speed is 190 km/h within 74 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 210 km/h in a gust or gale form.

According to the special notification issued earlier, Mocha's maximum continuous speed within the cyclone center is 180 km per hour, which increases up to 200 km in the form of gust or gale force.

Mocha is moving north and northeast and becoming more concentrated over the same area. It was 490 km south and southwest of Chittagong seaport, 410 km south and southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 530 km south of Mongla seaport, and 460 km south of Payra seaport at midnight yesterday, reports Met Office.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office said that the influence of the very strong cyclone Mocha has started in the coastal areas of Chittagong and Barisal divisions.

Cox's Bazar seaport has been asked to display warning signal number ten and Chittagong and Payra seaports to display warning signal number eight. Besides, Mongla seaport has been asked to display local warning signal number four.

Meanwhile, due to the impact of the cyclone, Cox's Bazar and Chittagong and the low areas of their remote islands and chars may be flooded with high tides of 8-12 feet higher than the normal tide, the Met Office has warned. However, it has been reported that there is no danger of the very strong cyclone 'Mocha', which is located in the Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, becoming a super cyclone.
