Police in Netrokona have detained a local leader of the Jubo League for allegedly inciting sabotage targeting a planned program of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).
The arrest was made around 10:00 AM on Sunday in the Khanpara area near Razar Bazar on the Shyamnagar–Birishiri road in Purbadhala upazila.
The detainee, Humayun Kabir (35), serves as the organizing secretary of the Khilishapur Union unit of the Jubo League and is a resident of Khalishaur Purbo Para village.
According to Netrokona police sources, Humayun allegedly made an inciting Facebook post that suggested a potential attack on the NCP’s scheduled rally in Netrokona.
After the post came to the attention of law enforcement, members of the Detective Branch (DB) and Purbadhala Police conducted a joint operation to arrest him. He is currently being held at the district DB office for questioning.
Additional Superintendent of Police (recently promoted to Superintendent) Saheb Ali Pathan confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing regarding possible sabotage attempts against the NCP’s July road march event.
The NCP was scheduled to hold a rally and road march beginning at 10:00 AM on Sunday at the old collectorate field in Moktarpara area of the town.
Sources within the NCP and law enforcement indicated that heightened security measures have been taken in the wake of recent violence at NCP events.
In Gopalganj, clashes between law enforcement and alleged attackers led to injuries and tension. In another incident in Cox’s Bazar, a rally stage was reportedly destroyed following controversial remarks by an NCP leader.
Fahim Khan Pathan, a central committee member of the NCP, said the march route would start from the Moktarpara field and pass through Choto Bazar, the central Shaheed Minar, Teribazar, and Akhra Mor before concluding back at the starting point. Central leaders are expected to continue to Sherpur following the event.
