Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the chain incidents of Myanmar forces shelling along Bangladesh border is under the scrutiny of foreign ministry.
He said: "We have summoned the country's ambassador for the fourth time and register our condemnation over the chain incidents of mortar shelling into Bangladesh territory."
"The Myanmar side replied that it happened mistakenly and they would be more careful in the future. However, their intentions are under scrutiny," he added.
He made the statement while briefing media at his Secretariat office on Sunday.
Replying to a query as to why such incidents are happening again and again, the minister said: "Such incidents of mortar shelling have been occurring repeatedly on border. Myanmar said Bangladesh has nothing to worry about as the ongoing conflict is their internal issue."
"However, our officials concerned in foreign ministry have been asked to monitor the situation closely and consider the entire event as per the international rules," he added.
Their intention is under Bangladesh's scrutiny and necessary steps will be taken as per the international protocol, stated Quader.
Noting that Bangladesh's security issues are the top priority of the Sheikh Hasina-led government, he further said: "We are committed to protect our every inch of land as the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh is like our existence."
Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already focused on the Myanmar issue during her UK visit.
