Over 3,500 named in case over attack on Nural Pagla’ shrine

Police have filed a case against 3,000 to 3,500 unidentified individuals in connection with the attack, vandalism, and clashes at the darbar of Nurul Haque, popularly known as Nural Pagla, in Goalanda of Rajbari district.

The incident occurred on Friday following Jumma prayers, when a procession under the banner of Touhidi Janata launched an attack on the darbar sharif.

Supporters of Nural Pagla retaliated, triggering violent clashes that left one person dead and around 50 others injured. Protesters also attacked police personnel and damaged vehicles during the unrest.

In a shocking escalation, enraged locals later exhumed the body of Nural Pagla and set it on fire.

Sub-Inspector Selim of Goalanda Ghat Police Station filed the case just after midnight on Friday. Goalanda Ghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rakibul Islam confirmed the development on Saturday morning.

The OC said that members of Touhidi Janata stormed the darbar during the clashes and set it ablaze. When police tried to bring the situation under control, they were attacked, and police vehicles were vandalized.

Authorities said the situation is now under control. Public access to the area has been restricted, and additional police have been deployed to maintain order.
